Olympic Sailing Competition Forum started from March 10th. Officers of 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition technical department came to Forum to communicate with citizens on March 12nd.

Q: What technical department mainly responsible for? A: Technical department is the technological support unit for 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition, which support the stationary communications, mobile communications, information systems, temporary regulation, internet services, cable television systems, security monitoring system, information network security, etc.
Q: Sailing competition is a game effected by weather resistant, what if there will be any heavy rain or some non-wind day? A: Sailing boats are powered by natural wind resistance with speed of 2.5 M/S-17 M/S, and also need 1500 meters visibility, non-polluted sea area. According to ISAF competition rules, competition results remain valid even if it only process one valid round.
Q: Is there any deficiency on technological support? A: Because the technological team are from Omega, Lenovo, Samsung, China mobile, China telecom etc. We need a team run-in period, and we will run certain tech-drills to fill in the gaps.
Q: How many technical engineers are there in technical department? A: We’ve got 13 technical engineers in charge of stationary communications, mobile communications, information systems, temporary regulation, internet services, cable television systems, security monitoring system, information network security, etc.
Q: What volunteers does technical department require? A: Volunteers should be meet basic requirements of Olympic Sailing Competition & Paralytics, and also we will take an integrated survey about the applicants’ techniques and experiences.
Q: What technological devices serve for the media during Olympic Sailing Competition? A: There will be a Media Center with a media hall in it, journalists can use wireless 24-hour network in the center. There are also 2 TV walls in the Media Center, 40 Olympic live from different venues can be seen at the same time.
Q: Where can we acknowledge the instant results of the competition? A: People can visit www.sailing2008.org or get instant information from TV/broadcasting to know the results. Audience members can get instant results of the competition from out-door screen and public broadcast system.
Q: How much expense on the facilities? A: Most of them are supplied from sponsors such as Omega, Lenovo, Samsung, China mobile, China telecom etc. SSCQD put in small part of it which is about hundreds of thousands RMB.
Q: Will the high-tech products be shown to public after the competition? A: SSCQD has already planed to build an Olympic museum after the 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition, parts of the products will be shown to public then.
Q: The tech-museum is interesting, will it be open to public in 2008? A: Because the Olympic Sailing Center is still under construction, exhibition hall can not be open to public temporarily. A permanent Olympic sailing museum open to public will be built after 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition to show "Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People's Olympics".
